Bellows Sealed Valve Vs. Conventional Valve

Conventionally globe valve used  in steam line uses gland packing. Instead of Gland packing The Bellows Sealed valve is consisting of  a bellows cartridge welded to the valve bonnet and stem. There is only a Gasket joint in the valve body and globe site only. So there is Little possibility to leak steam. What is bellows- A device with concertinaed sides to allow it to expand and contract.  As the valve stem strokes, the bellows expands or compresses with the stroke movement. Advantages of using Bellows sealed valve- Thought the initial cost of the bellows sealed valve is high with compare to conventional globe valve but with compare to maintenance and overhead costing is less. For a maintenance Engineer to select a bellows sealed valve instead of conventional valve is a good decision and he/she will be trouble free for a long time. Many factories where steam consumption in the floor is high, there multiple number of valves is needed and in conventional valves (Gland packed seal valve/piston ring valves) maximum times after a short time interval the gland packing leaked. As  a result it looks odd, time consuming to replace valves, Production hampered , risky.

butterfly valves

Butterfly valves

For regulating or isolating the flow of fluid Butterfly valve is used. The operation of butterfly valve is more or less as same as ball valves.

Flow Diversion Valve

Waukesha Cherry Burrel Diversion Valve
Flow Diversion Valve: It is a valve to divert flow in the fluid line. It works on the signal coming from the temperature sensor/Transducer to divert the flow of the fluid. The Waukesha Cherry-Burrell Flow diversion valve is excellent in operational use in the factory. The dairy firms uses this kind of valve to divert the flow of the fluid before the pasteurizer line. The Pasteurizer need above 90 degree Celsius temperature, if the temperature of the fluid is less than 90 degree then the temperature transducer gives signal to the diversion valve and then the diversion valve divert the fluid to the Balance Tank. In the other hand if the temperature is above 90 degree Celsius then the diversion valve is operates to the forward direction .

Samson Single acting steam flow control Positioner

Application:
Single-acting positioners for attachment to pneumatic control valves. These positioners use an electric input signal from 0/4to 20 mA or 1 to 5 mA (Type 4763) or a pneumatic input signal from 0.2 to 1 bar (3 to 15 psi) (Type 4765)

PARTS OF VALVE

PARTS OF VALVE

Valve Definition: Which regulates the flow of substances (Fluid, Gas) by opening, closing or partially open or close by obstructing.
Major Parts of valve are as follows:
Body, Ports, Discs, Spring, Seat, Stem, Bonnet etc
Body: It is the main part of valves. The substances pass through Body. It is the casing which holds the fluid going inside it. It is made of different metals or plastics.
Ports: The openings, it might be two or more.
Discs: The object which resist or flow the fluid. The shape differs accordingly the types of valve.
Seat: which is used for seal tight between inside and outside.
Stem: It is a rod inside and outside of the valve which transmitting the motion to control the inside disc or rotors..
Bonnet:  It is the cover of the valve.

Steam Flow Control Valve

Steam Flow Control Valve

In Industry steam flow needs to be controlled. To control the steam maintenance people use Steam Flow Control Valve. These valve controls the flow of the steam on demand basis in the machine/Process. Controlling of this valves are done normally electrically or pneumatically. Positioner/ Actuator are used for control the flow. The positioner/Actuator are fitted with the valves. Generally for flow control glove valve is used. The actuator respond to the signal by temperature gauges or flow meters. These Steam flow control valves are also named as Automatic Control valve as it is operated through electrically/Pneumatically. Food Processing plant, Dairy foods, refineries, chemical plants, Tobacco Green leaf processing plant are the users of steam flow control valve.
Some Typical application of Steam flow control valve are as follows:
> Fluid Heat Exchangers
> Sterilizer
> Humidifier
> Steam fired Absorption Chiller
> CIP (Cleaning In Place)
There are some good companies who have manufacturing steam flow control valve such as Honeywell, SpiraxSarco, Siemens, Coulton, Flow stream, ARI valves, steriflow, Flow serve corporation,  etc

Difference between Gate valve and Globe Valve

Difference between Gate valve and Globe Valve

SL No.
Globe Valve
Gate Valve
1.
Divert the flow at right angles through a circular opening and flow is controlled by a circular disc which moves towards and ultimately seats on the beveled edges of the circular opening.
Gate valve has a wedge of material which cuts across the flow area and seats around the circumference of the pipe.
2.
It can be used for wide open, fully closed, or with the disc in an intermediate position for regulating the flow.
It is used for wide open or fully closed, and not for intermediate flow regulation.
3.
Used for flow controlling
For using dividing or for long time closed position it is used.

Difference between Foot Valve and Check Valve

Difference between Foot Valve and Check Valve

A foot valve is used to maintain a nearly full suction pipe for a pump to enable the pump to lift the liquid into the pump suction. It decreases the priming loss of pump. The foot valve is used in the suction of pump in downward direction. It is used to suck the fluid from sump. In sump fluid the foot valve is installed. It works mainly on gravitational effects fitted at bottom of the suction pipe of the pump. The flow velocity to keep a foot valve open is lower than the velocity required keeping a swing or lifting check valve open. The differential pressure across the foot valve is small.

Check valve works on difference of pressure in inlet and outlet of the valve. Check valve can be fitted anywhere in the pipe line.
